I’m responsible of immersive audio research & standardization at Nokia. My passion is to shape the future of audio, from spatial audio to 6DoF and beyond.


I’m experienced in leading audio/visual research teams, building forward-looking prototypes and protecting key innovations with numerous patents. Due to my long background in user experience, I’m able to design novel R&D concepts that take the end-user experience into account. Bringing new technical enablers to the end user as appealing solutions is one of my key talents.

Skilled audio expert with background in producing solutions for 3D spatial audio, music discovery, source tracking, source separation, volumetric audio (6DoF), AR/VR audio, communication audio, and more.

Experienced musician with 30+ years of history in playing various instruments, hundreds of live performances, 200+ composed songs, music production and even being a conductor for a musical theater band.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Real-time spatial audio mixing prototype

Invented world’s first real-time spatial audio tracking and rendering system. The solution was initially targeted for VR and demonstated in high profile events, e.g., NAB show. A version of the concept was later productized as part of the OZO Live offering.


Prototype of volumetric telepresence in AR

Worlds first multi-room volumetric telepresence protype for Augmented Reality. Users are able to experience volumetric audio telepresence together having extremely immersive experience.


Composition of world’s first volumetric song

Composed and played all instruments to world’s first volumetric multi-zone song where a user can walk inside the song and the experience the song in unique ways according to user position. The song is now part of official MPEG-I standardization test content.


Productizing music recommendation algorithms

Long-term research in ways for improving music recommendations, including e.g., world’s first instrument dominance analysis algorithm. A selection of the developed algorithms were integrated as part of a large music service back-end.


Novel user interfaces for music

World’s most extensive (evaluated) collection of novel user interface prototypes for finding new and appealing music from massive music catalogs. The work has inspired several companies for their solutions.


Streaming mobile music service

In 2004, probably one of the first mobile streaming music service prototype was created. The prototype later extended to cover numerous novel usage concepts to support social listening and finding new music.


External collaboration

Long track record in establishing University and company partnerships for supporting and complementing internal research work. Active participation and preparation of different public funding projects and experience even in coaching and hosting student projects with proven track record.
